We select candidates to support, in large part, by crossing the original sponsors of important law enforcement-supporting bills with the legislators who are in the most competitive races. We take this approach because introducing legislation is what really gets the ball rolling, and because candidates in the most competitive races need the most support.
Below are the candidates that we have supported to date for the 2018 general election. Not every bill that was important was introduced by a legislator in a tight race, so every bill on the “Tracking Legislation” page isn’t represented here.
Rep. Comstock introduced H.R. 3249, the “Project Safe Neighborhoods Grant Authorization Act”, and signed the congressional letter to the President to fund the COPS program in the 2019 budget.
Sen. Donnelly introduced S. 867, the “Law Enforcement Officer Mental Health and Wellness Act” and is an original co-sponsor of S. 597 “Children of Fallen Heroes Scholarship Act”.
Rep Fitzpatrick introduced H.R. 949 the “Children of Fallen Heroes Scholarship Act” and is an original co-sponsor of H.R. 3918, the “Fire Police Fairness Act”.
Sen. Heitkamp is an original co-sponsor of S. 2794, the “Protect and Serve Act” and of S. 1311 the “Human Trafficking Victims Protection Act”.
Sen. Heller is an original co-sponsor of S 1134 “Back the Blue Act” and S. 583 “American Law Enforcement Heroes Act”. He also is an original co-sponsor of S 1311 Human Trafficking Victims Protection Act” and of S. 322 “Pet and Women’s Safety Act”.
